Protective Services Training
Oregon – Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Courses

- New Unarmed Private Security Professional Certification – DPSST Unarmed Security Professional Course is the 14 hour long state required training you need prior to submitting your application to become a licensed Security Professional in the State of Oregon. This course is conducted over a 2 day period. The lecture portion includes topics on ethics, morals and professionalism, how and when to notify public authorities, making citizens arrests, report writing, criminal law, civil law, use of force and other legal considerations.
Required Gear: Valid form of Photo Identification, Pen, and Notepad
- Renewal Unarmed Private Security Professional Certification – The DPSST Unarmed Refresher Course is a 4 hour long course that goes over the topics covered in the initial 14-hour DPSST Unarmed Security Professional Course, along with any updates to laws, rules or statutes. The course can be completed 180 days prior to the expiration of your current DPSST Unarmed certification. The DPSST Unarmed Refresher Course includes a lecture portion, and a 20 question closed book written examination.

- New Armed Private Security Professional Certification – The DPSST Armed Security Professional Course is a 24 hour class, broken into three 8 hour days. The first two days of the class are lecture-based. Topics include: firearm safety, ammunition, officer responsibilities, legal definitions, proper decision making, use of force, post-shooting procedures, and decision-making scenarios. We also go over handgun types, operation, cleaning and maintenance, along with gear useful for the Armed Security Professional. At the end of the second-day students will take a 30 question closed book test. Students are required to successfully pass the written test prior to moving to the range portion of the class. This is to ensure all information is understood and retained prior to handling firearms. The third day will be on the range covering, the cardinal safety rules, mindset, and the hands-on component. We will go over the fundamentals of marksmanship, drawing, reloading, and clearing weapons malfunctions. Prior to the live fire portion of the range, students will take the DPSST Safe Gun Handling Assessment. Upon successful completion of the assessment, the students will move onto the live fire portion of the course. In the live-fire component, students will shoot from numerous positions, all of which are part of the qualification course. Students then will take the DPSST State Proficiency Qualification Course (PQC-1).
Required Gear: DPSST Card, Handgun with holster, Two magazines and magazine pouch, 150+ rounds of handgun ammunition, Duty Belt, BDU’s or Tact Pants (clothing must be adequate for weather and allow for movement (no shorts), Hydration source, Lunch (refrigeration is unavailable. There is a market nearby for purchasing lunch), Sunscreen (weather dependant), Hat with visor, Eye and Ear protections, Kneepads (if you have issues kneeling on the ground)

- Situation Awareness Specialist® (SAS) Certification: The Situation Awareness Specialist® (SAS) professional certificate training program was designed to educate an individual in the craft of situational awareness – to help build and enhance the capacity to better understand and deal with the dynamics of random and potentially threatening events in both personal and professional space. Course includes an introduction to the situational awareness craft, mindset change, psychology of being aware, perception vs. observation, controlling your senses, patterns and anomalies, understanding threats, criminal behavior, pre-incident indicators and imminent attack behavior, victim selection, control and competence, planning, tactical considerations, and much more.
- Basic Defensive Tactics Course: This is an 8 hour introductory/refresher training course. This course covers: O.C. Pepper Spray, Handcuffing, Collapsible Baton and Verbal De-escalation. This course will allow the students to be trained in the proper use of their tools and equipment carried while on/off duty. A certificate of training will be presented upon completion of training. Cost: $300
- Advance Defensive Tactics Course: This is a comprehensive 16hr training course. This course will cover: O.C. Pepper Spray, Handcuffing, Collapsible Baton, TASER®, Verbal De-escalation and Contact Simulation. This course is intended to provide students with in depth training tactics. Once completed students will have a strong understanding of their tools and equipment. Along with a certificate of completion. Cost: $550
- OC Pepper Spray: The Defense Technology (Safariland Training Group) OC Pepper Spray Course is 4 hours of comprehensive training specifically designed for Law Enforcement, Private Security, and other industry professionals. Students will learn detailed information in the use of all types and forms of Oleoresin Capsicum aerosol projectors. This course covers all aspects involved in the selection, preparation, deployment, storage, use of force, and legalities regarding the use of all OC products. Cost: $100
- ASP Tactical Handcuffing: The ASP Tactical Handcuff Course consists of 4 hours of comprehensive training. The course is specifically designed for Law Enforcement, Private Security, and other industry professionals. Students will learn in great depth on Portation (Carrying), Presentation (Drawing), and Handcuff application techniques. Cost: $100
- ASP Collapsible Baton: The ASP Collapsible Baton Course consists of 4 hours of comprehensive training. The course is specifically designed for Law Enforcement, Private Security, and other industry professionals. Students will learn in great depth on Portation (Carrying), Presentation (Drawing), Striking techniques, Mechanical function, and Maintenance. Cost: $100
- TASER® Certification Course: This training program is specifically designed for individuals desiring practical training in TASER® effective use. Students will learn how to properly use TASER® for personal protection and get practical knowledge and education training. They will also integrate hands-on training with both live and inert TASER® products to develop a comprehensive understanding of these tools. Cost $150
- Refuse To Be A Victim – The Refuse To Be A Victim® program is not a firearms or self-defense class. It is a seminar that will help you improve your personal safety strategies and will provide you with valuable information that you can apply in every area of your life. Cost: $50
- Basic Self Defense: This is a 6hr unarmed protection course designed for beginners to familiarize themselves with real world techniques in a safe, ego-free environment. Students will go over situational awareness and verbal de-escalation strategies. They will also learn the fundamentals of striking and grappling as they apply to a self-defense scenario. Cost: $25
- Advanced Self Defense: This is a two-day 6hr course that bridges the gap between armed and unarmed self-defense training. Students will be introduced to defensive techniques in dynamic scenarios where weapons are present. We will discuss use of force decision making, force options, and situational awareness. Students will train and employ pressure tested techniques focused on weapon access, employment, access denial, and threat mitigation. Cost: $350
- Self Defense for Women: This is a 6hr course designed to help develop situational awareness and integrate defensive skills and tactics into women’s everyday life. Students will go over verbal de-escalation, striking and grappling fundamentals, along with protective tools overview (Pepper Spray and Taser). Cost: $250
- Force-on-Force: This is a two-day 8hr course. In this course, students who can safely and efficiently manipulate their weapon will explore the strategic side of employing a firearm. Planning, movement, angles, use of the environment, and numerous other factors are a significant part of winning a gunfight. We cover proven tactical concepts. In the culminating event, we pressure test these tactics in a safe, but realistic manner using UTM (simulation rounds). Cost: $600
Verbal Defense and Influence Course
- This course is an 8hr course. In this course students will learn how to properly de-escalate volatile situations with difficult people by using words. Students are taught how to communicate effectively in several different scenarios. They will gain confidence in their command presence and non-verbal communication by using tactical empathy. Also, students will utilize skills on how to properly compartmentalize and how to be patient with difficult individuals. Cost: $250
Management of Aggressive Behavior® (MOAB®) Courses
- MOAB® Basic Course – This 8hr course presents principles, techniques, and skills for recognizing, reducing, and managing violent and aggressive behavior. The program also provides humane and compassionate methods of dealing with aggressive people. Cost: $150
- MOAB® Public Safety Officers Course – This is a 8hr course designed for law enforcement, private security and military personnel and focuses on de-escalation techniques that officers can use in their daily communications with civilians, interviews with victims and encounters with potentially violent aggressors. Cost: $175

National Rifle Association Training & Certification Courses (inquire for pricing)
- Basics of Pistol Shooting – The Instructor Led Class takes place in a traditional classroom and range environment. Course topics include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate bearing the signature of the NRA Secretary and your NRA Certified Instructor.
- Basics of Rifle Shooting – This course is at least eight hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot rifles. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Rifle Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.
- Basics of Shotgun Shooting – This course is at least 10 hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a course completion certificate.
- Home Firearm Safety – This is a four-hour course for safe gun handling that is conducted in the classroom only. Students are taught the NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; primary causes of firearm accidents; firearm parts; how to unload certain action types; ammunition components; cleaning; care; safe storage of firearms in the home; and the benefits of becoming an active participant in the shooting sports. Students will receive the NRA Home Firearm Safety handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, and course completion certificate.
- Inside the Home Defense – This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills; strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation; firearms and the law; how to choose a handgun for self-defense; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate.
Prerequisite: This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm). Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
- Outside the Home Defense – The course is divided into two levels. Level one is nine hours and offers the essential knowledge and skills that must be mastered in order to carry, store, and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. Students spend several hours on the range and shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition during level one. Upon completion, students may choose to attend level two, which is an additional five hours on the range and approximately 115 rounds of ammunition learning advanced shooting skills. Time and ammunition requirements are minimum, and may be exceeded. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics Of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and appropriate (level one/level two) course completion certificates(s).
Prerequisite: This course is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state or local law and are of good repute and possess defensive pistol skills presented in the NRA Basics Of Personal Protection In The Home Course. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate, or by passing the pre-course evaluation.
- Eddie Eagle GunSafe Program (Kids) – The Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program is a gun accident prevention program that seeks to help parents, law enforcement, community groups and educators navigate a topic paramount to our children’s safety. Eddie and his Wing Team are on a mission to help teach Pre-K through 4th graders what to do if they ever come across a gun. (Free Course)
Concealed Carry Courses:
- 50 State CCW Course – NRA CCW takes place in a traditional classroom and range environment. This course may be completed in a single day format or over several days with smaller blocks of instruction. Course topics include: Firearm Safety (Mandatory), Pistol Nomenclature and Selecting a Pistol for Self-Defense, Basic Defensive Pistol Skills, Drawing from Concealment, Loading and Stoppage Remediation, Mindset, Carry Modes and Pistol Concealment, Firearm Cleaning, and Sport Shooting and Training Activities. Course length is determined by the Instructor, to meet your State’s requirements for a CCW permit. Additionally, students will complete live fire training and a nationally standardized shooting qualification while on the range with an NRA Certified Instructor. Students will receive reference books, take a NRA CCW Student Examination and receive a course completion certificate.
- Concealed Carry/Firearm Safety Course – This is our 4 hour NRA Home Firearm Safety Class. This class includes 4 hours of classroom training, which will detail basic overviews of cleaning, maintenance, firearm storage, identifying and unloading different firearms, fundamentals of ammunition, failure modes, and how to handle a firearm safely. This is compliant with WA 1639 regulations.
The optional second part of the class is one hour of dedicated judgmental and shooting discipline with the use of our laser simulator. Shooting discipline will focus on stance, breathing and proper sight alignment and picture.
After the completion of this five-hour course, you will leave with an understanding of proper firearm safety and appropriate storage, as well as basic skills to handle and use a firearm.

National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Courses
- Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) – was developed by the U.S. Department of Defense – Defense Health Agency (DHA) Joint Trauma System to teach evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield. Succor Global, LLC. conducts TCCC courses as specified by the DHA-JTS. We currently offer two types of TCCC courses that are available to civilians as well.
- TCCC-MP (TCCC for Medical Personnel) – is a 16-hour course for military medical personnel including medics, corpsmen, and pararescue personnel deploying in support of combat operations.
- TCCC-CLS (TCCC Combat Lifesaver) – is a 40-hour course for non-medical military personnel deploying in support of combat operations.
- Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) – is a 16-hour course that teaches EMS practitioners, other prehospital providers and civilians how to respond to and care for patients in a civilian tactical environment. The course presents the three phases of tactical care and integrates parallel EMS nomenclature. Succor Global, LLC.’s TECC course is endorsed by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, is consistent with the current guidelines established by the Committee on TECC (Co-TECC), and meets all of the updated National Tactical Emergency Medical Support Competency Domains. This course is accredited by CAPCE for 16 hours of continuing education credit, and recognized by NREMT.
